An ordinary afternoon walk turned into a nightmare when gunfire erupted on a Brooklyn street, leaving a 7-month-old girl dead after she was struck while sitting in her stroller.

According to the New York Post, authorities say the infant was with her parents near Humboldt and Moore streets when shots rang out.

Two suspects riding a moped allegedly opened fire before speeding away from the scene, according to law enforcement sources.

In the chaos, the baby’s mother grabbed the stroller and rushed into a nearby bodega, only to realize her child had been hit.

Emergency responders transported the infant to Woodhull Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:46 p.m.

Witnesses described the moment the violence unfolded as sudden and terrifying.

“I was in the supermarket and coming out with my sandwich. I heard a commotion and a shot. Once you hear shots in the air, you duck. I saw a girl on the floor with her baby,” said Vincent Valcissel.

Should the city increase efforts to reduce gun violence in public areas?

“It happened so fast like a movie.”

Police later recovered the suspects’ moped about a mile from the shooting and launched a search for those responsible.

A person of interest was taken into custody on Nostrand Avenue and brought to a hospital for questioning, though no charges have been filed.

Officials believe the infant was not the intended target, but it remains unclear whether the gunfire was directed at her parents or others nearby.

At a separate news conference, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the tragedy.

“It is a tragedy that this baby was shot and killed, and soon after this press conference I’ll be joining our police commissioner to brief the media and the public,” the mayor said. “Our hearts break for this family.”

Surveillance images reportedly show one suspect firing from the back of the moped while another drove. Police described the driver as a man with long hair wearing a light-colored hoodie, while the shooter wore darker clothing.
