Singer and producer Oliver Tree is presumed dead after a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that reportedly claimed six lives over the weekend.
The 32-year-old California native was among the victims when two helicopters collided Sunday morning, according to reporting from the Associated Press.
Brazilian authorities said the crash occurred in Rio de Janeiro and involved two aircraft that collided in midair before one helicopter came down on a car dealership.
According to Rio de Janeiro’s Military Fire Department, the impact ignited a fire after the aircraft crashed into an area where several electric vehicles were parked.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Officials have launched an investigation to determine what caused the collision.
Representatives for Tree did not immediately respond to requests for comment following reports of his death.
The accident occurred just days after Tree performed in São Paulo as part of his ongoing world tour supporting his latest album, “Love You Madly, Hate You Badly.”
His performance in São Paulo took place on June 6.
Tree had been scheduled to continue the tour with a concert in Lisbon on July 1.
Authorities and local media also identified the other victims as passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim and Lucas Brito Chaves, along with pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.
Tree built a large international following through a unique blend of alternative pop, hip-hop, comedy and performance art.
Known for his distinctive look and eccentric stage persona, he became one of the music industry’s more unconventional stars.
His breakout success came with songs including “Hurt,” “Alien Boy” and “Life Goes On,” tracks that generated hundreds of millions of streams and helped establish him as a recognizable figure in alternative music.
Over the years, Tree developed a reputation for combining humor, elaborate character-driven performances and genre-crossing music that attracted fans across multiple audiences.
The reported tragedy has stunned fans as Tree was actively touring and promoting new music at the time of the crash.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision as authorities work to determine exactly what led to the fatal accident.
