Attorney General Merrick Garland announced he was appointing a special counsel in the investigation of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden.
“I’m here today to announce the appointment of David Weiss as a special counsel consistent with the Department of Justice regulations governing such matters,” Garland said during a press conference on Friday.

Garland explained Weiss had asked to be “sole appointed” as the special counsel in the investigation, and “upon considering his request” Garland decided it was in the “public interest” to appoint him to the case.
Weiss, a Delaware U.S. Attorney appointed by former President Donald Trump, spearheaded the initial investigation against Hunter Biden, according to the Washington Examiner.
“This appointment confirms my commitment to provide Mr. Weiss all the resources he requests,” Garland said.
In July, Hunter Biden’s plea deal appeared to fall dead. He had been slated to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and was also going to accept an agreement to let him avoid prosecution for a gun charge.
