Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) is being pressed on her support for President Donald Trump.

During the debate between McSally and Democratic opponent Mark Kelly on Tuesday, McSally was asked by the host, “Senator, the question was, are you proud of your support for President Trump?”

The Republican senator, however, ducked the question as she responded, “I’m proud to be fighting for Arizona every single day, putting legislation on President Trump’s desk.”

The host was undeterred, pressing, “So you’re proud of your support for President Trump?” McSally instead pointed to legislation that was put on the president’s desk “to cut Arizona’s taxes.”

“It sounds like she’s proud of her support for President Trump,” the host added, to which McSally interjected, “I’m proud to be fighting for Arizona.”

McSally’s Democratic challenger, however, was more forward as he called Trump’s behavior and actions as president “not acceptable.”

The latest poll from Oct. 1-3 shows Kelly ahead by double digits. According to FiveThirtyEight, Kelly has 50% compared to McSally’s 39%.

McSally’s debate remarks are similar to when Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) was challenged during a recent debate by her Democratic opponent if she will endorse Trump in the 2020 presidential election, as IJR previously reported. The Maine senator, however, declined to answer.

“Let me say this, I don’t think that the people of Maine need my advice on whom to support for president,” Collins said.

Collins did not support Trump in the 2016 presidential election.

According to recent polls, Biden has the lead ahead of the general election on November 3.
