Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) announced her candidacy for governor of Minnesota, a state of great turmoil as President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown continues.

The announcement was made in a video released Thursday, Politicoreported.

In the video, Klobuchar listed the many crises the state has endured over the last year. This includes “the assassinations of the state House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband; a school shooting; the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti,” per Politico, as well as the “3,000 ICE agents on our streets and in our towns, sent by an administration that relishes division,” she said.

“We cannot sugarcoat how hard this is,” Klobuchar said. “But in these moments of enormous difficulty, we find strength in our Minnesota values of hard work, freedom, and simple decency and good will.”

Klobuchar was initially Sept to announce her campaign on Monday, but delayed it after the death of Alex Pretti, who was shot by Border Patrol agents Saturday.

Klobuchar spoke with White House officials Monday, urging the administration to end its immigration crackdown.

Democratic Gov. Tim Walz withdrew his reelection bid for a third term after a fraud scandal was exposed.

Klobuchar spoke of the scandal in her video.

“I will make sure the people who steal taxpayer money go to jail and root out the fraud by changing the way state government works,” she said.

Klobuchar pledged “to work with leaders from both parties in our state.”

She also asked “Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to join our campaign.”
