Democratic Senator John Fetterman (Pa.) has remained steadfast in his view of the upcoming War Powers Act vote.
He will vote against it.
The House passed legislation Wednesday to force President Donald Trump to end the Iran War.
This marks a victory for Democrats and the constitutional purists who say the war is not legal without congressional approval.
The Senate will deliberate over the matter.
If it were to pass, it is likely President Trump would contest the authority of the measure.
Speaking to “CUOMO,” Fetterman explained why his vote against the measure will not waver.
“My vote no is not a pro-war vote. It’s absolutely a pro-no nuclear Iran,” Fetterman said.
“We’ve held Iran accountable for the first time ever, they were held accountable in a very meaningful way … that’s really important and that’s not a radical thought or view for Democrats,” he said.
The ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was tested Tuesday as the Pentagon reported strikes in the region in response to missiles launched by Tehran toward nearby regional neighbors.
Trump avoided directly answering a question on whether the ceasefire was still in effect.
He said a resolution could occur “over the weekend.”
“Iran is the bad guy in this, that is not America … people have forgot this idea that America are the good guys,” Fetterman said.
“… If we walk away now, when are they ever going to hold them accountable? That’s, I think, the appropriate thing. Deeply, deeply unpopular, absolutely poisonous for me as a Democrat to hold these views and vote this way,” Fetterman continued.
“Things are more important than me holding my seat, things are much bigger than that. We’re at a profound time…,” Fetterman added.
