A quick international stop turned into an unexpected travel headache for Chet Hanks, who told followers he is stuck in Medellin after running into passport problems.

According to Page Six, the actor and musician shared the ordeal in an Instagram video, opening with, “Ya’ll ready for story time?” as he recounted how the trip unraveled.

Hanks said he first traveled to Puerto Rico for his friend Max’s birthday party, calling it a good time, before deciding to make a side trip to Colombia to visit a friend.

“Sounds good, right?” he said. “We’ll check this out.”

The situation changed when he tried to head home. Hanks explained he was traveling on his Greek passport because his U.S. passport is close to expiring.

“I’m traveling with my Greek passport because I’m a dual citizen,” he said, adding that airlines sometimes reject nearly expired passports.

When he arrived at the airport for his return flight, he said he was told he would need a green card to re-enter the United States if he was using a foreign passport.

“I don’t have a green card because I’m an American citizen,” he said. “So I’m literally stuck in Colombia. I’m stuck in Medellin.”

Hanks acknowledged the location could be worse but said he has no clear plan. “Granted, there’s worse places to be stuck, but I literally have no f–king idea what I’m gonna do, and the only embassy to get this s–t settled is in Bogota.”

He added that he did not want to make the roughly hour-long flight to the capital, telling viewers, “so free me.”

Despite the travel limbo, Hanks appeared to be passing time by going out. His Instagram Stories showed him at a dance club, with flashing lights and crowds on the floor.

The 35-year-old is the son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson and has spoken publicly about his personal challenges in the past, including his recovery from substance use. In 2024, he marked two years of sobriety.

In a previous interview about working on “Running Point,” he recalled advice from his father about professionalism on set.

“He just said, ‘If you just know your lines, and you show up on time, and you’re nice to everybody, that gets you a long way,” Hanks said.

For now, though, the focus is on finding a way home from Medellin as he works to resolve the passport issue.
