MS NOW’s Joe Scarborough pressed Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Monday on whether it is good that Iran’s military infrastructure has been degraded.

Scarborough repeatedly argued on “Morning Joe” that the U.S. military significantly damaging Iran’s military infrastructure is a good thing. In a heated discussion, Schumer pushed back, saying its too early to determine whether that is a good outcome.

“Is it good that their military infrastructure is being degraded? You know the degree that it is. Yes or no?” Scarborough asked.

“You can’t, because it’s a premature question,” Schumer replied. “What is gonna happen in the next several months?”

Scarborough then said a critic of the conflict in Iran can agree that seriously disintegrating Iran’s military infrastructure is good for the U.S.

“Regardless of whether we agree with going in or not, is it good that Iran’s military infrastructure has been seriously degraded?” Scarborough demanded.

“I have to tell you, Joe, first, what’s gonna happen three months from now. Is it worth it? What’s gonna happen? Will the world economy collapse? Will something happen even worse? Will the whole energy infrastructure of the world go up in smoke?” said Schumer on possible outcomes of the destruction of Iran’s military. “So you have to, when they do it without planning, when they do it without understanding, where they’re going, I don’t think it’s fair—”

Schumer was interrupted by crosstalk, during which co-host Mika Brzezinski called it a “trick question,” before Scarborough cut in to respond.

“Let me answer the question for everybody in America,” he said. “The answer’s yes, it’s good that the terrorist regime their military has been and capabilities have been degraded radically. The question, Mike, though, is political. It’s the political question. What is the political impact?”

The U.S. Central Command has 70% to 90% of certain military infrastructure and has significantly reduced Iran’s ability to threaten regional shipping on the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. suppressed Iran’s air defenses, its missile and drone launch infrastructure and is currently targeting its defense industrial base.

Schumer argued that Americans are more concerned about the price of goods and the state of the economy. Scarborough cut him off, stating the most Americans would actually approve of degrading Iran’s military structure.

Joe in all due respect, if you ask the American people, if you have the choice of degrading the military structure in Iran but having gasoline be six dollars a gallon, and our economy falling into a deep recession where millions lose their jobs, what do you think the Americans would say?”

WATCH:

“Senator, you’re not listening to me,” Scarborough insisted. “That’s the political side of it … Alright, why don’t we talk about the Yankees, because you’re not following me, here. With all due respect. But you don’t understand me, there’s a big difference. I would say that most Americans would say it’s a good thing that it’s degraded. Would they agree that we should have gone to war, Mike? I think most Americans you look at the polls, they don’t know what this war. They don’t want this war. I think the Democrats should be I think it’s something, with all due respect, Democrats should be clear about. Iran has tried to kill Americans since 1979 … two things can be true at once.”

Schumer argued that the conflict in Iran could bring serious geopolitical and economic consequences for Americans.
