A Michigan congresswoman pushed back in blunt terms this week after a video of her defending her record on foreign policy began circulating online.
Rep. Debbie Dingell, a Democrat from Michigan, used repeated profanity in the clip while responding to criticism about her work involving Cuba and Venezuela. The question that prompted her response cannot be heard in the version of the video that has been shared online, and the recording ends before the full exchange can be seen.
“I don’t appreciate being told we’re not doing enough when I f*cking voted on two war resolutions this week. And I’m going to tell you that people like me are standing up and saying what he’s doing in Cuba is wrong,” Dingell said in the video.
She then appeared to turn the criticism back toward voters in the state, saying, “you’re f*cking elected a Republican Congress in this state.”
Dingell’s remarks appeared to refer to recent congressional action on a measure involving U.S. military activity in the Western Hemisphere. The House rejected H.Con.Res.61, a resolution that would have directed the removal of U.S. forces from hostilities against designated terrorist organizations in the region. The measure failed in a 216 to 210 vote, according to Responsible Statecraft.

The resolution was connected to concerns over the Trump administration’s strikes around the Caribbean. Supporters of the measure argued Congress should have a greater role in authorizing military action, while opponents rejected the effort.
The video of Dingell quickly drew attention online, partly because of the language she used and partly because it offered only a brief glimpse of the exchange. Without the full question or the rest of the conversation, the context surrounding her comments remains limited.
Dingell has found herself at the center of viral political clips before. In May 2025, video from a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing appeared to show her sleeping during the proceedings. Dingell denied that characterization, saying she had been awake for 31 straight hours while fighting Republican-backed Medicaid proposals, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
Dingell has served in Congress since 2015. She currently represents Michigan’s 6th Congressional District, a seat she has held since 2023, according to GovTrack.
Her comments come as Democrats continue to face pressure from activists and voters over foreign policy, especially on issues involving military action, Latin America, and the limits of presidential power. The brief clip, though incomplete, showed Dingell forcefully rejecting the idea that she has been passive on those issues.
