Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) is running for reelection.

Collins announced her reelection bid in a video showing her unpacking New Balance running shoes, per The Hill.

“This is perfect for 2026, because I’m running,” Collins said.

If victorious, this would be her sixth term in the Senate.

Collins is the only GOP member representing a blue state. This makes her a prime target for Democrats.

She will likely face either Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D), a favorite of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), or Graham Platner, an oyster farmer who is a progressive.

The race is one of two Republican-held seats considered a “toss up” by the Cook Political Report. The other race is in North Carolina to replace Sen. Thom Tillis (R).

Should Sen. Susan Collins continue her Senate career by seeking reelection in 2026?

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, citing a poll, called Collins the “second most unpopular Senator in the Nation.”

“Susan Collins has lost the trust of Maine voters and this November they’ll hold her accountable at the ballot box,” the committee posted.

Last week Congress approved 11 of 12 full-year government funding bills, which Collins helped pass in her role as chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Senate Republican leaders are backing their standard-bearer.

“There is one way to elect a Republican in the state of Maine, and that’s for Susan Collins to be the nominee,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said in January.
