Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) was purged from her leadership post — and now she is weighing in on whether she would leave the Republican Party.

During a “Today” show interview, Savannah Guthrie asked Cheney, “If belonging to the Republican Party requires you to believe the election was fraudulent and President Trump is the rightful winner, would you ever consider leaving the Republican Party and becoming an independent?”

Cheney quickly responded, “I’m not leaving the party.”

The Wyoming lawmaker also shared that she will run for reelection and “absolutely” thinks she can win.

Additionally, the Republican lawmaker said during the “Today” interview, “It’s a moment where we have to decide as a party whether we’re going to embrace the truth.”

Cheney was ousted from her leadership post on Wednesday. After the vote, she continued to express her disagreement with former President Donald Trump, “I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Trump tore into Cheney, writing in a statement after the vote, “Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” adding, “I look forward to soon watching her as a Paid Contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”

However, the lawmaker received praise from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who called Cheney “a leader of great courage, patriotism and integrity.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) launched a bid on Wednesday for House Republican Conference chair, saying to her colleagues in a letter that she wants to “unify our message as a team and win the Majority in 2022.”
