Democratic Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison seemingly praises fossil fuels in a recent video despite suing oil refineries over climate change.

Ellison noted that gas prices have increased from “about $2.98” to “up around $4 and change” ever since the Iran War. In the video, he is seen filling up his vehicle at a gas station while emphasizing how hard this price increase has been for “everyday life.”

It appears to the video was filmed at a Kwik Trip gas station, based on the station’s red-white color scheme and an ad for “The Bake Sale,” a promotional event where they discount their baked goods. Historically, Kwik Trip sources some of its gas from the Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend Refinery, according to Renew Wisconsin.

However, Ellison’s office sued the American Petroleum Institute, Exxon Mobile, and Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend Refinery in 2020.

Ellison’s office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Should public officials openly praise fossil fuels while pursuing lawsuits against the industry?

“Defendants engaged in a civil conspiracy with each other, with organizations not directly engaged in the sale of fossil-fuel products, and with individuals to mislead the public about the consequences of using their products. Defendants are jointly and severally liable, along with other co-conspirators, for this conspiratorial conduct and for the resulting harm suffered by the State as a result of their conspiracy,” the lawsuit claimed.

“Order Defendants to disclose, disseminate, and publish all research previously conducted directly or indirectly by themselves or their respective agents, affiliates, servants, officers, directors, employees, and all persons acting in concert with them that relates to the issue of climate change” and also “Order Defendants to fund a corrective public education campaign in Minnesota relating to the issue of climate change, administered and controlled by an independent third party,” were among the lawsuit’s requests.

The U.S. Department of Justice reportedly filed a complaint against Minnesota alleging that the 2020 lawsuit was an overreach and would “unreasonably burden” both energy production and national security on May 4, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

During Ellison’s tenure as attorney general, Minnesota allegedly overlooked billions of dollars in Medicare fraud, the DCNF previously reported.
