Daily Caller News Foundation

The U.S. military reportedly attacked Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island on Thursday, a senior U.S. official told Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin.

The strikes on Iranian oil ports on Thursday did not signal the end of the cease-fire or the restart of the war, Griffin reported in a post on X, citing an anonymous U.S. official. Iranian state media outlet Fars News Agency said the explosions were caused by “the enemy.”

“The strike on one of Iran’s oil ports comes two days after Iran fired 15 ballistic and cruise missiles at UAE Fujairah Port, eliciting anger from Gulf countries after top Pentagon leaders said Tuesday that the Iranian strikes did not rise to the level of breaking the ceasefire, calling it low level attacks that didn’t rise to that level,” Griffin said in the X post.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to a Thursday press release.

“U.S. forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes as U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers transited the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman,” it says.

A senior US official tells me that it was a US military strike on Iran’s Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas moments ago but added this is NOT a restarting of the war or end to the ceasefire.

The strikes came after President Donald Trump suspended Project Freedom at the request of Pakistan and other countries, announcing the move in a post on Truth Social.

“Based on the request of Pakistan and other Countries, the tremendous Military Success that we have had during the Campaign against the Country of Iran and, additionally, the fact that Great Progress has been made toward a Complete and Final Agreement with Representatives of Iran, we have mutually agreed that, while the Blockade will remain in full force and effect, Project Freedom (The Movement of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be paused for a short period of time to see whether or not the Agreement can be finalized and signed,” Trump said in the post.

Gulf countries reportedly balked at the reversal, with Saudi Arabia cutting off America’s access to Saudi airspace and bases on Wednesday, according to NBC News.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have reportedly lifted the restrictions, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing anonymous U.S. and Saudi officials.

Israel denied any involvement with an attack on the port, Fars News Agency claimed, citing Israeli sources on i24NEWS.
