A former Rhode Island high school teacher is facing criminal charges after authorities say she crossed professional boundaries with a student.

Alisha Crins, 39, was charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault following an investigation by Rhode Island State Police, per the New York Post.

The allegations stem from interactions that occurred while the student was enrolled at Ponaganset High School in Glocester.

According to charging documents obtained by WPRI, Crins began contacting the teenage student after obtaining his phone number online.

Investigators say the communications quickly became personal and inappropriate, involving off-campus meetings.

The student told police that some encounters involved physical contact. Crins allegedly encouraged secrecy, with statements like, “‘I can’t believe I’m going to do this … You can’t tell anybody.’”

When questioned by authorities, Crins admitted to communicating with the student and acknowledged kissing him but claimed the relationship was “never physical,” according to court records.

The documents note that some of the alleged conduct took place while the student was 17.

The student filed a formal complaint with the Rhode Island State Police in October, prompting a criminal investigation. Police gathered evidence, including messages and witness statements, which led to the filing of charges.

Crins is scheduled to be arraigned on March 18. Foster-Glocester Superintendent Dr. Renee Palazzo confirmed that Crins is no longer employed by the district, stating the decision followed the initial complaint and subsequent investigation.

“This case highlights the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in schools,” a spokesperson for the district said.

Authorities continue to review the details, emphasizing the seriousness of teacher misconduct and the steps being taken to ensure student safety.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the case proceeds.

The situation has raised concerns among parents and the community about safeguarding students and reinforcing appropriate teacher-student interactions.
