CNN anchor Jim Acosta is expected to leave the cable news network just days after a layoff was announced.

The layoff included scheduling changes, which dropped his 10 a.m. ET show.

According to a report in the Status newsletter, Acosta spoke with colleagues over the weekend, saying he plans to leave the network.

Acosta’s show will be replaced with “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown.”

CNN CEO Mark Thompson had previously suggested to Acosta that his show be moved to the less desirable midnight slot and increased to two hours.

An insider from CNN told Fox News Acosta “struggled with the choice.” He may be getting out of his contract before it expires.

“It takes courage,” per the CNN insider.

Acosta’s departure will be a blow to the network.

“Many viewers like Jim… if there is anyone who could make the overnight go it’s him,” another CNN insider said, adding, “It’s sad to see him go.”

Acosta joined CNN in 2007 and he covered political campaigns. He then covered the Obama and Trump White Houses and had a tumultuous relationship with the latter.

He was accused of grandstanding after his bouts with President Donald Trump during his first administration and gained some notoriety when Trump called him out for reporting “fake news.””

In the end, this relationship helped Acosta get a book deal and was a guest on many liberal late-night shows.
