Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) believes there is a chance the eventual 2024 Republican presidential nomination will not be able to cast a vote for himself.

During an appearance on Fox News Monday, Christie addressed former President Donald Trump’s legal problems.

Host Neil Cavuto noted there is a chance one of the criminal charges against Trump “might stick” and asked, “Then what?”

“What do you make of that? That’s a possibility,” he added.

Christie responded, “He’s going to go on trial the day before Super Tuesday. I believe he’s going to be convicted in that January 6th trial in Washington, D.C.”

Christie then mentioned a report that said Trump’s former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was granted immunity to testify under oath in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

According to ABC News, citing unnamed sources, Meadows “informed Smith’s team that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were baseless.”

Trump is facing charges stemming from that investigation. He is being accused of leading the effort to overturn the election and he has denied wrongdoing.

Christie addressed the possibility of the former president being convicted in the case, and said, “Imagine this, if he’s our nominee, he won’t be able to vote for himself.”

However, he noted a conviction would not prevent Trump from being president again.
