Fox News host Chris Wallace weighed in on the Republican National Convention as he expressed thoughts about the focus of the week’s events.

On Monday evening, as the first night of the Republican National Convention unfolded, Fox News cut away from the convention to air commentary.

At one point during the discussion, Wallace noted that the first hour of the convention had very little to do with the Republican Party, collectively, as the focus appeared to be solely on Trump.

“I’ve watched most of the last hour and a half and what really strikes me is that while we’re calling this a Republican convention, it’s really the Trump convention,” Wallace said.

See Wallace’s remarks below:

Wallace also noticed the aspects of the convention that differ from past conventions including the fact that Trump is not being supported by a former Republican president.

“The most recent Republican president, George W. Bush, won’t be making an appearance this week,” Wallace noted. “Over the weekend, the Republican National Committee announced that because COVID is limiting the attendance of delegates they’re not even going to pass a platform but they pledge support for the president’s America First agenda.”

He also noted another “unprecedented” move implemented for this year’s Republican National Convention: Trump is scheduled to speak every night of the convention as opposed to only delivering a nomination acceptance speech on the final night of the convention.

Wallace also shared his take-away from that decision as he insisted Trump may believe he’s the “best spokesman” and “salesman” for himself.

Wallace added, “He seems to have made the calculation that the best spokesman, the best salesman for Donald Trump is Donald Trump and for the Trump base, the millions of voters out there that voted for him in 2016, who plan to vote for him again, he’s probably absolutely right.”

The Republican National Convention will continue on Tuesday evening.
