Former President Donald Trump’s campaign team is reportedly trying to prevent avoid setting the expectations too low for President Joe Biden ahead of the first 2024 debate.

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman appeared on CNN’s “The Source” Thursday and discussed how the Trump team was preparing for the June 27 debate with Biden with host Kaitlan Collins.

“There is an awareness in Trump’s world that they have lowered the expectations pretty solidly for Biden there,” Haberman said. “I don’t know that a week out from the debate is enough time to try to recast that, but Trump did not help himself in 2020 when he was constantly interrupting Biden, he knows that, he has said that to people.”

She added, “Trump and his folks are aware that they set the expectations too low for Biden, and Biden beat them.”

Collins then played a clip from the first presidential debate of 2020 when Trump repeatedly interrupted Biden.

Haberman noted the Trump team is seeking to avoid a repeat of setting the expectations too low that the president can easily beat them.

Watch the video below:

Trump told the “All-In” podcast he is “not underestimating” Biden ahead of the debate, and said he watched 2012 vice presidential debate between former House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Biden.

“Well, all I can say is this. I watched him with Paul Ryan, and [Biden] destroyed Paul Ryan,” Trump said.
