Republican control of the House may not survive until the 2024 election.

During an interview with Fox News’ Larry Kudlow, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) the shrinking Republican majority in the House as members have decided to retire early.

She said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has been doing “a very, very good job in an impossible situation.”

“And we are seeing our own majority eviscerate before our eyes with early retirements, which is unfortunate. And we are the last line of defense against the horrible policies that we’re seeing with the Biden administration… and all we have is this Republican majority as small as it is,” she added.

The conversation then to the issue of Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) deciding to retire early

The Hill notes that because of Wisconsin law and Gallagher’s timing for his decision to leave Congress it will “ensure” his seat will be left vacant until January.

“He’s gotta stay,” Tenney said.

She continued to predict Gallagher’s exit could lead to a Democrat becoming speaker, “We’re perilous. We could end up having a Speaker Hakeem Jeffries in the interim here while we’re waiting for special election.”

“Personally, if you’re going to make a commitment to the people that elect you, that you’re going to serve for two years unless you have a really good reason not to serve, then why would you do that?” she added.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has called for Johnson to expel Gallagher from the House to ensure the seat will be made vacant in time for a special election to be held.
