Twitter CEO Elon Musk’s future at the company appears to be in question after he posted a poll on the platform.

On Sunday, Musk took to Twitter to post a poll asking users, “Should I step down as head of Twitter?”

He added, “I will abide by the results of this poll.”

More than 17 million users shared their opinion with 57.5% saying Musk should step down while 42.5% believe he should stay in the role.

Musk later added, “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”

One user replied to the tweet, saying, “Yep, he already has the new CEO picked out. Elon will retire to being Chairman of the Board and Tweeter.”

Musk replied, “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.”

Some users mocked Musk for posting the poll.

One user tweeted, “This guy just spent three times what Twitter was worth, only for its user to tell him to f**k off.”

The poll came just days after Musk reinstated the accounts of several journalists he previously suspended.

CNN’s Donie O’Sullivan, The New York Times’ Ryan Mac, The Washington Post’s Drew Harwell, The Intercept’s Micah Lee, and journalist Aaron Rupar were among those suspended.

“It’s a clear illustration that it is no longer a rules-based company,” Rupar said to NPR.

He added, “It’s basically a company based on Elon Musk’s whims and the terms of service depend on his mood each day.”

Investor Jason Calacanis posted a poll asking who the next Twitter CEO should be.

The options were himself, Craft Ventures partner David Sacks, both of them together or other.

The other option came out on top.
