House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is expressing her disapproval of President Donald Trump’s stance on voting by mail.

When asked during a CNBC “Morning Joe” interview on Tuesday about the possible provisions that could be made for the election, Pelosi noted resources Democrats wanted to include in the stimulus bill to support such changes.

“In terms of the elections, I think we’ll probably be moving to vote by mail,” Pelosi said.

“That’s why we wanted to have more resources in this third bill that just was signed by the president, to get those resources to the states to facilitate the reality of life: That we are going to have to have more vote by mail,” she added.

Amid the coronavirus outbreak and the encouragement of social distancing, Democratic lawmakers are exploring new ways to make the voting process less complicated. The vote-by-mail system is one of those strategies.

However, Trump argues implementing that type of system would hurt the Republican party. In fact, the MSNBC host noted that Trump believes a Republican may never be elected again with a vote-by-mail system in place. Pelosi also shared her opinion of Trump’s stance.

“I feel sad that the president doesn’t have confidence that his party cannot convince the American people about a path to go forward,” Pelosi said. “That’s what elections are about: What is your vision for the future?”

Pelosi’s comments are in response to Trump’s remarks during his Fox News interview on Monday. He expressed his disapproval of certain aspects of the previously proposed bill, including the election by mail proposal.

“The things they had in there were crazy,” Trump said. “They had things — levels of voting that, if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”
