President Donald Trump’s response to the coronavirus outbreak is receiving mixed reviews.

Thirty-nine percent of voters rated the president’s handling of the coronavirus as “poor” while another 12% rated the president’s handling of the outbreak as “just fair,” but 41% rated it “excellent” or “good,” according to a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll.

The poll was conducted March 13-16 and surveyed 1,986 registered voters, shortly after Trump officially declared a national emergency over the coronavirus outbreak, as IJR previously reported.

However, the poll showed voters “strongly supported” — 84% — Trump’s decision to declare a national emergency while only 7% opposed the action taken by the president.

Among Democratic voters, the president received roughly 10% saying his handling of the virus is “excellent” or “good.” In contrast, the president received 80% of those ratings from Republicans.

In case you missed it:

The earliest case of coronavirus was detected on November 17th in China, weeks before the Chinese government announced the emergence of the virus to the public, reported the South China Morning Post.

Trump initially appeared to dismiss the seriousness of the threat of the virus to the United States and previously said the risk of the coronavirus was “very low” in the U.S.

In a short time, however, at least 7,300 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the U.S. along with at least 100 deaths. Worldwide, at least 214,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus resulting in over 8,700 deaths.

See Trump’s press conference below:

During the news conference on Wednesday, Trump referred to the virus as the “unseen” enemy. He also acknowledged the coronavirus “snuck up on us.”
